Mall Cares

Our Charitable Programme

At our shopping centres we work energetically to involve the local community and contribute to local community development.

Each centre in our portfolio runs its own unique charitable programme of fundraising activities as part of The Mall Cares programme. Each project is planned and delivered at a local level in conjunction with a local partner, and driven by local needs and concerns.

In addition to this core programme of charitable work, our centres allow other local charities to benefit from the footfall in our centres through appropriate charitable collections. In the last 5 years over £1.3 million pounds has been raised under the Mall Cares banner.

Napal Trek for SMA

Mandy Smith, security guard at The Mall Maidstone raised over £9,300 for the SMA Trust via her mission to trek across Nepal. The SMA (Spinal Muscular Atrophy) Trust is the only UK charity solely dedicated to funding research into SMA. Mandy’s fundraising journey started in the New Year with 12 ice cold buckets of water over her head at the strike of 12 midnight and continued throughout the year. She and her brother have hosted many charity events in the Mall Maidstone, including a mile-a-pennies, craft fairs and even a Bush Tucker Trial! Not only did Mandy and her brother take on a gruelling, high altitude, two week trek across Nepal which included trekking in the dark at 4am, whilst there they also spent time volunteering at a hospital and assisting with a housing project.

Takeover Day

On 1 December we ran a campaign across all Malls to tie in with Giving Tuesday (a global day of giving that follows Black Friday and Cyber Monday). Christmas shoppers were urged to donate to our local chosen charities on JustGiving or via text and join the #unselfie crowd. The #unselfie is a picture of your face but with message in place of it detailing the charity you are supporting and nominating others to do the same. The Mall also donated £500 to a charity to one lucky participant’s charity on Giving Tuesday. C&R staff including all of our directors got involved and shared their #unselfie.
