Visitors to one of Capital & Regional Malls in September, may have been surprised by the youthful appearance of some of the members of staff. As part of national initiative Retail Matters, we welcomed primary school children aged 10 and 11 during ‘Takeover Day’, offering them a behind the scenes look at how the shopping centres are run.
The scheme, backed by the Office of the Children’s Commissioner, gave them the chance to shadow professionals and see what is involved in the day to day running of a shopping centre. The pupils joined the centres’ customer service, security and management teams for a day, gaining an invaluable insight into a career in retail.
Sara Jones, C&R Operations Director:
“One of our primary aims is to engage with the local community, and Takeover Day has been a huge success in helping school children understand how a shopping centre functions and the job opportunities it provides.”
