£66m Development at The Mall Blackburn

Purchased in 2004, The Mall Blackburn has been dramatically transformed with a £66 million development scheme which has modernised the malls and car park, creating a further 104,000 square feet of retail space as well as a further 300 car parking spaces and over 20 new retailers:

  • Initial lettings include Primark, Peacocks, Next, New Look, Blackburn Market, WH Smith, Costa, Deichman and H&M
  • £66m investment
  • 104,000 sqft of new retail space, creating a 650,000 sqft centre upon completion
  • Over 20 new stores
  • Over 300 new car parking spaces, creating 1400 in total
  • Extensive refurbishment of existing mall
  • Opened 26th July 2010
  • Anchor stores include: Debenhams, BHS, Tesco, New Look, Next, River Island, Top Shop and Republic
  • Average annual footfall 14.5 million

Primark and Costa have opened their respective 50,000 sqft flagship store and 1,900 sqft mall cafe within the extension at The Mall, Blackburn. Peacocks opened their new 11,000 sqft store in November. This is the first time these operators have been represented in Blackburn.

Further dramatic improvements will be seen when a 68,000 sq ft state-of-the-art continental style market opens in March 2011.

Major retailers at The Mall are now trading from vastly bigger units:

  • River Island are trading from a store 120% bigger than the original
  • New Look are trading from a store 286% bigger than the original
  • Next are trading from a store 252% bigger than the original
  • Top Shop exchange in a deal to increase their floor space by 110%
