The Mall Blackburn welcomes Wilko and new leasing activity

We have recently welcomed Wilko to The Mall Blackburn, where the national homeware retailer has taken a 10 year lease over 25,000 sq ft previously occupied by BHS.

The homeware retailer will join Footasylum which has recently opened a new 5,200 sq ft unit on a 10 year lease and national opticians Specsavers who have up-sized into a 6,500 sq ft unit.

Wilko Blackburn Branch Manager, Raymond McWhinnie, said: “We’ve had a fantastic start since opening in The Mall last month and the team is delighted to be a part of one of The Mall’s portfolio of retailers. It is a very positive start to our residence and we look forward to welcoming locals into our new home over the coming months.”

Will Blake, Retail Asset Manager at Capital & Regional, said: “We are delighted to see Wilko open in The Mall, which will create up to 49 new jobs and new investment in the local economy following the closure of BHS.”

“Following the recent commitments from Specsavers and Footasylum, it clearly demonstrates the continued attraction of The Mall Blackburn from a range of national brands.”

The Mall Blackburn is a 600,000 sq ft shopping centre, comprising 100 shops and 1,300 parking spaces, in the heart of Blackburn town centre.

We purchased The Mall in 2004 and invested just under £70 million to dramatically transform the scheme, creating 104,000 sq ft of additional space which accommodates 20 new retailers, additional parking facilities, and a new entrance which links to Blackburn’s new bus station.
