Debenhams Invests in Comprehensive Extension

Debenhams Invests in Comprehensive Extension and Refurbishment at The Mall Blackburn

Following the £66 million redevelopment of The Mall Blackburn, Debenhams has demonstrated its commitment to the centre by extending its existing space by 4,000 sq ft and investing in a multi-million pound refurbishment programme.

The enlarged store will extend to approximately 90,000 sq ft, spread over three floors. As well as extending by an additional 4,000 sq ft, Debenhams will invest significantly in refitting the unit, which will include improvements to the flooring, lighting and internal finishes. The additional space will include a new and enlarged entrance onto a main mall in the centre, strengthening Debenhams position as one of The Mall Blackburn's principal anchor stores.

Andrew Haughey, Retail Asset Manager at Capital & Regional, commented: "The redevelopment of The Mall Blackburn is a success story for The Mall portfolio, having attracted retailers such as Primark, H&M, USC and Bank to the town. It has also allowed many of our retailers to expand their presence in the centre and has resulted in a considerable rise in footfall figures. Debenhams decision to upsize illustrates its continued confidence in the centre and we are looking forward to seeing work begin soon."

Rob Hadfield, Director of Property, said: "We are delighted to announce that we are extending our current store by 4,000 sq ft. The extra trading space will allow us to expand our Cosmetics, Fashion Accessories and Menswear offering by bringing in well-known brands such as Benefit, Bare Minerals, Barratts and Quiz to the community of Blackburn.Customers will continue to enjoy designer collections at high street prices that Debenhams is famous for, including H! by Henry Holland, Principles by Ben de Lisi, J by Jasper Conran, Star by Julien Macdonald and Rocha by John Rocha but in an enhanced shopping environment."

The 650,000 sq ft sq ft Mall Blackburn is anchored by Primark, Boots and Argos as well as Debenhams. The Mall Fund is asset managed by Capital & Regional and fund managed by Aviva Investors.
